In the study of the geological structure, especially in the exploration and prospecting of oil and gas fields, geophysical methods of exploration are of great importance.

In Uzbekistan, the first geophysical studies to search for oil and gas began in the mid-40s in the territories of the Surkhandarya

and Fergana intermountain depressions.

The increase in the volume of exploration work led to the need to form in August 1957 a specialized "Uzbek Geophysical Trust", now the Joint Stock Company "O'ZBEKGEOFIZIKA". This contributed to the conduct of large-scale and targeted geophysical research on the territory of the Republic. Most of the geophysical studies were carried out in the Ustyurt and Bukhara-Khiva oil and gas regions, where large reef hydrocarbon deposits were discovered.

Until 1995, the Uzbek Geophysical Trust operated under the State Committee of Geology and Mineral Resources.

In 1996, the enterprise was transformed into a joint-stock company "Uzbekgeofizika" and became part of the Holding Company "Uzbekneftegaz".

2019 JSC "Uzbekgeofizika" passed into the structure of the State Committee of Geology and Mineral Resources, and is still functioning.

Since the foundation of the enterprise, 900 promising oil and gas structures have been studied. Of these, more than 600 have been put into deep exploration drilling, as a result, more than 250 hydrocarbon deposits have been discovered based on the material of geophysical work.

During the period of independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 458 promising structures have been studied, 122 hydrocarbon deposits have been discovered.
