A New Industrial Gas Flow Discovered in the Ustyurt Region
As a result of geological exploration activities carried out in the Ustyurt region, an industrial-scale natural gas flow was obtained from the Shagirlik Lower Jurassic exploration well No. 2, located near the “Moynoq” field.
On January 10, 2026, the well was drilled down to a depth of 5,265 meters into the Lower Jurassic formations. Natural gas accumulations were identified within the depth interval of 5,265–5,061 meters.
On January 11, an operational meeting was held with the participation of Deputy Chairmen of the Management Board of JSC “Uzbekneftegaz” R. Sherov and N. Mukhutdinov, Head of the Geological Exploration Department Z. Safarov, Chief Geologist of “Eriell” OSME DMCC J. Pukharbayev, Director of the “UGE” branch of JSC “Uzbekgeofizika” and Deputy Directors for Geology G. Ulpetov and N. Saburov, as well as Chief Geologist of “Ustyurtgaz” GPC B. Kdyrov.
During the meeting, issues related to an in-depth study of the geological structure of the Lower Jurassic formations and the delineation of the distribution boundaries of the identified gas accumulations were discussed. Based on this, suitable locations were selected for the placement of exploration wells No. 3 and No. 4.
In addition, prospective plans of JSC “Uzbekneftegaz” for upcoming geological and geophysical works were reviewed.
The results achieved in the Ustyurt region represent another important step toward expanding the country’s natural gas reserves.
